Student services and support programs

Student Support
The services of a support teacher complement the classroom teacher for children who may require additional assistance. Literacy and numeracy support staff, the school guidance officer and special education teachers are part of this support team. Please see the class teacher if you feel your child is in need. Targeted support programs include:
  • Oracy - Oral Language development
  • Reading and Numeracy Support Squads
For students with a disability, additional educational adjustments are provided by classroom teaching staff with the support of special education teachers. Lawnton State School has an inclusive philosophy based on the belief learning is a social experience best undertaken with peers in an engaging learning environment.
School Guidance Officer
Lawnton State School has access to the services of an Education Queensland appointed guidance officer to provide support for students where academic concerns or other issues relating to personal or family matters arise. Access to the guidance officer is by appointment through the school office and appointments are available Monday and Friday.
Additional services may be provided to meet specific needs including access to a speech pathologist and support teacher for students with English as a second language.
School Chaplain
Our school chaplain is an additional support for the social/emotional needs of our students and works in the school for seven days per fortnight. Support is provided through games, school excursions, in classrooms, specific personal enrichment programs and on camp. No religious content is undertaken while working with students without prior written parental consent. We have a school chaplain on site Monday, Thursday and Friday
